3 Simple things I do every day to keep home feeling put together, welcoming and a little less stressful:
: Clean the kitchen
: Make the beds
: light some candles
Everything feels tidier, more put together and like I could invite unexpected guests in. And all 3 of them together take hardly any time at all.
Small things make a big difference.

I have found if the kitchen bench is clean and clear of dishes I don’t mind anybody visiting. I have also found that if the floors are clean then the whole house seems cleaner. A friend of mine always used to fry a few onions when starting the evening meal as her husband would come home, smell onions frying and be happy knowing dinner was started. Each household has to find the things that matter to them.

We’ve got company coming this weekend and I’m going to remember these tips, including making kid beds which doesn’t always happen. And I’ll light the candles too!

These are the three things that make a difference to me too! Unfortunately, I haven’t done one today. :;)

Lighting the candles makes a HUGE difference. But only if the table that the candle sits on is free of clutter. ;o)

Your right. It’s the little things that really make the big difference. Thanks!

After I had my babies, there were two things that I needed to get done every day. Make the bed and have a shower.
As long as I did those two things, I felt like I’d accomplished something. Anything more was gravy.

I struggle to keep the kitchen pulled together, but I’ve also been finding the calming, fake-it-til-you-make-it benefits of made beds and lit candles. I think the best $40 I’ve spent this season is the splurge on 4 huge Yankee Candles in my favorite scents. There is just something about the smell of a lit candle, isn’t there?
I’ve really enjoyed your series. I’m a new reader, over from the Nester, but I think I’ll be sticking around come Nov. 1. Thanks!

If the kitchen is picked up, it seems to make the rest of the house tidy. I hate dishes in the sink and papers on the table. My table is clear of things 95% of the time. I can’t go to bed with dishes in the sink.
Growing up, my bed had to be made immediately upon waking. I couldn’t leave my room unless my bed was made (I started making beds at age 5). I still make my bed everyday, but now I have to wait until my husband gets up.

The only thing I still use from my ‘following FlyLady’ days is to keep the sink empty and clean. My whole house really DOES feel cleaner if my dirty dishes are in the dishwasher waiting for a full load. The making of beds is something I need to work on- I just sort of throw the covers up in the morning but I Love the way it looks to come into my room and see the bed neatly made up.
Thanks so much for this series! Loved it all- even thought I didn’t find (or make) the time to comment more often!

What a great reminder! I’ve been lighting a lot more candles as a result.
