When I run by myself, I think about how fast or far I am going. I push myself. I look down at the pavement and not around me.
When she asks to come with me, we jog, we walk, we sprint, we hold hands, we look around.
She reminds me that it’s not all about where we’re going, how fast we’re going or how far we go. She reminds me to slow down. Look around. Notice what you otherwise wouldn’t. Enjoy the moments together
Some days, it’s just what I need.

So sweet!! You are doing such a wonderful thing–not only spending quality time, but teaching her the value of exercising! You go, girl! It’s neat that she’s teaching you in return. Great post!

That’s wonderful! How old was she when you started taking her? My almost 5 year old has been asking to come with me.

she’s 6 and just started asking to come with me the last couple months. I don’t think running – running is good for kids so we take it easy and have fun with it. i encourage her to see how fun getting outside and exercising is and hope that somewhere along the way I teach her as much as she constantly teaches me.

Hello Emily, this is a great post – kids add another dimension to all we do – best le

My kids want me to jog with them but I haven’t because I know they can go much… MUCH further and faster than me. And for now I want them to believe that I’m still the fastest person on earth. ;o)

Yes! When I ride my bike alone, I am bent on burning calories and whittling that pear! When I ride my bike with my 9-year-old, we admire trees, stop to gather a few acorns, talk about the chickadee call. It makes all the difference. I think there’s room for both…the pear whittling AND the slow rides.
This series is THE BEST!
