Feels Like Chaos

Feels Like Chaos

Can I complain?

My house is a mess. A summer away means I came home to lots of dust. And laundry. On top of that, right before we left we did the huge project of building out our master bedroom. We moved our stuff into the new room, my daughter moved out of her room into our old room, and her old room is being turned into an office/guest room. Are you confused yet and want to take a nap? Or hide? Because I do. Every room is apart. There is a chandelier sitting in my eating area waiting to be hung. I am trying to find space for everything. You would think this would be easier now that we have more room, but it seems to have just spread the problem. To make matters worse, a truckload of STUFF arrived today from my father-in-law’s house. Stuff I don’t have room for or need. I want to cry.

So! What do you say? Anyone want to help me get organized and back on track? Because I need some moral support. I’ll keep you posted with pictures as I put it all together. Because we have guests coming next week. There is no time like the present.

I’m trying to get up the momentum to de-clutter our home, so I would love for you to get started – that sort of energy is contagious.

  2. You can do it! My DH always says, “How do you eat an elephant?” Answer: One bite at a time!

We are attempting to walk the road to simplicity here in NH…. purging is a long, slow process with 5 people!

    ((HUGS)) You’ll get through it.

    Blessings on the journey,
    ~Deb

  3. You can do it! I’m a list maker, so I make up a list so I know exactly what needs to get done. It helps me focus. I am in chaos mode too, so I know how you feel! GOOD LUCK!

  4. I agree with Amy. Without a list i am stuck. i just redid my patio and made a list of all the new appliances. at first i didnt think i could get a bbq, patio heater, canopy, or fountain from an online store. but i found the prices are much cheaper. you should try looking online for your stuff. you will be surprised in what you find. i got all my stuff from http://www.fireforless.com. and it all shipped free. dont think they sell for bedrooms though.

  5. I can completely understand what you are going through as I am anticipating that massive wave of chaos headed my way. Should land mid Sept. So I will cheer you on now and then you can have my back then! Deal? :)

  6. Just like Deb says, one bite at a time. I have the same issues with work. The scope of many projects seem overwhelming at times, but when they are in broken down into individual step you are suprised how quickly they can get done. Good luck!

Ditto to all above! You can do it! Make lists and break down the steps. In the past ten years, I have had several waves like this – remodeling different parts, inheriting too much stuff, etc. I am now in a comfortable spot where I have just parts of one room to finish organizing whenever I feel like it (I can close the door!) so life is good! Remember, this too shall pass and remember that your guests are coming to see YOU!! I once had out-of-town guests the same weekend my son obtained a giant couch (the kind with a separate part that sticks out – SO comfy – and perfect for our house). . . we really didn’t have room for it without major rearranging, so we just made do and all laughed about it!! ENJOY!!

  8. Thanks for your kind comment at Emily’s yesterday.

If I was your neighbor I would help you organize…and then you could help me. We are switching bedrooms around and the back half of our smallish home is dismantled. I have a crib in my hallway; you have to walk sideways to get anywhere. Tears, yes.

  9. Okay deep breaths! You’ll get throught it! I felt the same way when we moved two weeks ago, and slowly, slowly, we are putting the chaos behind us! Having guests coming is the best motivation isn’t it? Good luck and be well.

  10. Breath! It will all get done :) I agree with the writer above, sit down, make a list and dig in!:) I just wrote a post on organizing last week, I think when the kids go back to school it feels like the right time to repurpose and reorganize!

  11. I found your blog while popping around on A Soft Place to Land. I love what I have read so far and can’t wait to follow you on your journey to move things from Chaos to Order…..

  12. One thing at a time. “Do the next thing”. You can do it! Don’t try and be perfect, though :)
