Can I complain?
My house is a mess. A summer away means I came home to lots of dust. And laundry. On top of that, right before we left we did the huge project of building out our master bedroom. We moved our stuff into the new room, my daughter moved out of her room into our old room, and her old room is being turned into an office/guest room. Are you confused yet and want to take a nap? Or hide? Because I do. Every room is apart. There is a chandelier sitting in my eating area waiting to be hung. I am trying to find space for everything. You would think this would be easier now that we have more room, but it seems to have just spread the problem. To make matters worse, a truckload of STUFF arrived today from my father-in-law’s house. Stuff I don’t have room for or need. I want to cry.
So! What do you say? Anyone want to help me get organized and back on track? Because I need some moral support. I’ll keep you posted with pictures as I put it all together. Because we have guests coming next week. There is no time like the present.

I’m trying to get up the momentum to de-clutter our home, so I would love for you to get started – that sort of energy is contagious.

You can do it! My DH always says, “How do you eat an elephant?” Answer: One bite at a time!
We are attempting to walk the road to simplicity here in NH…. purging is a long, slow process with 5 people!
((HUGS)) You’ll get through it.
Blessings on the journey,

You can do it! I’m a list maker, so I make up a list so I know exactly what needs to get done. It helps me focus. I am in chaos mode too, so I know how you feel! GOOD LUCK!

I agree with Amy. Without a list i am stuck. i just redid my patio and made a list of all the new appliances. at first i didnt think i could get a bbq, patio heater, canopy, or fountain from an online store. but i found the prices are much cheaper. you should try looking online for your stuff. you will be surprised in what you find. i got all my stuff from http://www.fireforless.com. and it all shipped free. dont think they sell for bedrooms though.

I can completely understand what you are going through as I am anticipating that massive wave of chaos headed my way. Should land mid Sept. So I will cheer you on now and then you can have my back then! Deal?

Just like Deb says, one bite at a time. I have the same issues with work. The scope of many projects seem overwhelming at times, but when they are in broken down into individual step you are suprised how quickly they can get done. Good luck!

Ditto to all above! You can do it! Make lists and break down the steps. In the past ten years, I have had several waves like this – remodeling different parts, inheriting too much stuff, etc. I am now in a comfortable spot where I have just parts of one room to finish organizing whenever I feel like it (I can close the door!) so life is good! Remember, this too shall pass and remember that your guests are coming to see YOU!! I once had out-of-town guests the same weekend my son obtained a giant couch (the kind with a separate part that sticks out – SO comfy – and perfect for our house). . . we really didn’t have room for it without major rearranging, so we just made do and all laughed about it!! ENJOY!!

I’m glad I’m not the only one! It must be the time of year.
I’ve undertaken a huge re-organization of my house, I’m repainting my trim and I’m fixing up the bathroom. I keep thinking I’ve bitten off more than I can chew, but then I go back to my to do lists and see that items are getting crossed off, and I feel better. If you’re interested, my to list and list of projects is here:

Thanks for your kind comment at Emily’s yesterday.
If I was your neighbor I would help you organize…and then you could help me. We are switching bedrooms around and the back half of our smallish home is dismantled. I have a crib in my hallway; you have to walk sideways to get anywhere. Tears, yes.

Okay deep breaths! You’ll get throught it! I felt the same way when we moved two weeks ago, and slowly, slowly, we are putting the chaos behind us! Having guests coming is the best motivation isn’t it? Good luck and be well.

Breath! It will all get done
I agree with the writer above, sit down, make a list and dig in!:) I just wrote a post on organizing last week, I think when the kids go back to school it feels like the right time to repurpose and reorganize!

I found your blog while popping around on A Soft Place to Land. I love what I have read so far and can’t wait to follow you on your journey to move things from Chaos to Order…..

One thing at a time. “Do the next thing”. You can do it! Don’t try and be perfect, though

Oh, I just hate when you get bogged down in my reader and I miss all the good stuff. I’m catching up on your organizing posts and man are you fast! You need to come help me next. Anyway the reason I felt the need to chat … I wanted to tell you about Operation Minimize. A challenge I started last month to rid my home of 2010 things before the end of the year. I try to do a blog post every hundred or so items and I just broke the 500 mark!!! Yay for me – it’s getting harder now as most of the random things are gone and its stuff I either haven’t wanted to deal with or stashed away so I wouldn’t have to see (or deal with) that I am having to work on now. Still, I’m a numbers junkie so I get a kick out of tallying things up and watching it all disappear.
Anyway, i thought it seemed fitting to share my challenge with you now.
Here’s the last post I did & l’ll be adding the 500 post later this week:
