This week marks four years since we bought this little old, neglected and unwanted home. This week also marks 10 years since I stood in a little church and held the love of my life’s hands and sniffled my way through my wedding vows, snot running from my nose, wondering when my maid of honor was going to hand me a tissue.
Last week, I received a gift in the mail from my mom. She took the audio off an old VHS tape made on my wedding day and put it on her computer and then made a video of photos from the last ten years of our life together. I watched the photos go by, the sound of our voices speaking our vows as the background, and of course I cried.
This has been a wild week around here, working on at long last the master bedroom remodel. While celebrating 10 years together this week, we’re also celebrating 4 years in this little house. The longest we’ve ever stayed in one place, which seems funny because the day this home was mine I couldn’t wait to get rid of it. Sometimes the best gifts life hands us are the ones we’re afraid to open.
I like to think about another year down – to look back and hold his hand and say “We’re still here”. For us, this week, that means two things. Here, together. Here, in our home we’ve built together. Both feel worthy of celebrating. The glancing behind doesn’t always bring up moments of sunshine and laughter. The moments that have been harder just remind me why it’s so great to be right here. With him.

Awesome!
Congratulations!! We’ll be celebrating our #10 this Aug. Our record of being in one place is in our current home,(5 years) though we’re preparing to move yet again this summer – I’m hoping to find our ‘forever home’ in the near future as hubby is looking for full time work now that his PhD studies – I don’t think we’re capable of starting with a fixer uper like ya’ll, but you’ve done a fabulous job and should be so proud.
Loved the pic of the two of you – your daughter looks a lot like your honey!

Anniversaries are such great times to be nostalgic, and to stand in awe of where we are versus where we have been. Here’s to many more–in the house, and in the marriage.

Beautiful. I love that photo. Funny how you can get a feel for real, true love just by looking at a picture of people you don’t even know. Happy Anniversary!

What an amazing gift from your mom! I didn’t know you could do that! If I can locate the VHS from my wedding (also 10 years ago, this September) I’m going to have to try it. Thanks for sharing, and happy anniversary to you.

Your expressions say it all – you guys are in love with each other and life. You are real. Congratulations on all of it. If you lived in Las Vegas, I’d invite you over for a glass of wine. Cheers!

My first time visiting; I love the story. I, too, cried all through my wedding and needed to blow my nose before the groom could kiss the bride. And well done on the 10 years together. I’m reading this from the lofty heights of 17, and still happy, still in love. Enjoy the summer!
