Handmade Gifts: Photo Tiles
December 3, 2009 at 7:00 am , by Emily
I published a post last January in which I shared this project I did. At the time, the people I gifted them with (my parents) were out of the country until after Christmas, so we didn’t celebrate until after the new year. Which means by the time I did this project and blogged about it, you all had already finished your holiday festivities and gift giving. I knew it was bad timing.
Not this year. I am sharing it yet again, to offer a little handmade gift giving inspiration for this Christmas.
If you’d like to see the original tutorial, you can see it here on my original photo tiles post. Later in the year, I insisted we do a mini kitchen makeover and I did another photo tiles project.
This is still a favorite of anyone we’ve given them to as gifts, and since they are so easy, I am making them for loved ones again this year.
I did this one a few weeks ago and took photos of the process and put them on my laptop but then my laptop got sick and is in the emergency room and I can’t get to my photos. It’s nighttime, this photo stinks but it’s of one of the holiday tiles I made this year.

I did the same process as the others, but put a clear tissue paper with a snowflake pattern in the background to make it more holiday-ish.This one is actually just for my family because hubby saw it and wanted to keep it. It’s a 6×8 tile from Home Depot and a 5×7 photo, leaving room for the snowflake background.
These are a really simple and sentimental gift to give to loved ones.

Oh thanks so much for this inexpensive idea! We are having a very tiny Christmas this year and this will really be great for several gifts.

I made one of these using blocks of wood. I had the guys at Home Depot just cut my wood into squares for me. It involved some sanding, but they are great! I had forgotten that you did the same thing with tiles – way less effort.
And – that is definitely my favorite family photo of you guys.
