I think this is it. No more crafts for the rest of the holiday season. Just living, loving, enjoying. Everything I am going to make has been made. Now I just get to share with you!
Inspired by some facebook friends, I wanted to make an advent calendar that had 25 simple family activities for us to enjoy from now until Christmas.
Here is what I started with:
- canvas (I used this one from the entryway since I wanted to only use things we have instead of heading to a store)
- red burlap that has been sitting in my craft box just dying to be used
- staple gun
- a ball of twine
- clothespins
- upholstery tacks
- paper

I wrapped the canvas in the burlap and stapled it down. Easy peasy.
Then I had this:

Then I cut twine to the length I wanted. These can be cut shorter or longer depending on your preference of dangling-ness.
Then used the upholstery tacks to attach the twine to the canvas wrapped in burlap. Aren’t my toes cute?

Then I cut my paper so I had 25 pieces, folded them in half so I could write an activity inside, wrote the numbers outside, and hung them from the twine with clothespins. You could use paperclips or any other cute form of attachment. I was just using what I had. And you could use black marker. I only had crayon. Oh well.

Okay..such a cute idea! I posted about our advent tradition today too…I guess everyone is thinking b/c it’s the first!

Can you post what your activities are for your advent calendar? I wanted to do something similar but didn’t want to have candy or little pieces of junk that no one cares about for each day. But its hard to come up with 24 or 25 activities.

Love, love, love it, Emily! You are so creative! I love seeing ones that don’t cost anything or that are made from supplies around the house. I will have to make this one next year!!

I love it! I too love that you used supplies from around the house and most of all that it represents what Christmas is really about–spending time with family and loved ones. Plus, it’s so CUTE. LOVE IT!

Congratulations on being on top of everything. I’d love to say I am, but, well, no. Decorating more houses, which is great, painting more tutorials – which is fun, more grandbaby projects – which is my heart, and finally launched my Mural Registry for Nurseries. (and, yes, it’s a shameless plug).
No advent calendar for 2 yr old grandson this year – maybe next year. Still working on just LOOKING at tree. It’s just so hard for little boys not to touch!
