A Thankful Home

One day until the official day of thanks.  I would love to be one of those people that is eternally grateful for each and every blessing during each and every day. I would love to cherish each moment as it passes, soaking it in, storing it in my memory of steel. But I don’t. Moments slip by, opportunities to be grateful escape unnoticed. But, I still consider myself a person who appreciates the many and abundant things around me. Even if I don’t stop and purposefully think about it each and every day and in each moment.

I am thankful for days when I can sleep in. I am thankful for mornings that I am up early and can have quiet moments to myself. I am thankful for the ability to run. I am thankful for days off from running. I know my kids are not the most appreciative beings ever, but I am grateful that they say thank you when given something, from a gift to a meal. I am thankful that my family has a home, a paycheck or two and more than we need. I am thankful that my family and friends make each and every day more special. And even if my son is going to erase my chalkboard full of things that I am thankful for minutes after I write them, it doesn’t change that I am thankful. For all of it.

So pleased with himself, he is.

I think if you asked him at that moment, he’d say he was thankful for paintbrushes used as erasers. And trains – just because.
