I woke up today determined to get to the bottom of my baskets of clean laundry, have everything folded and put in their places and to have a tidy house by the time I start making pizza for dinner tonight. It is 1 p.m. and I have done none of that. I can fold laundry while the boy naps or while everyone sleeps tonight. I can’t enjoy a sunny autumn morning when everyone is sleeping tonight. So, I ditched the mental list of what needed to be done and took my little man for a walk down a path in the woods.

He was scared of the winding path and the noises of nature, so he stuck close to my leg

Then was brave enough to step away from my leg but still wanted to hold my hand, and was a little unsure.

He finally let go and chose a leaf to carry

He loved when we came to forks in the path so he got to choose which way we’d go

There will always be laundry. I won’t always have chances to hold my son’s hand while we walk, then watch him choose to let go to show me the way.

Very cute. He has the same timidity as my son when he’s in new places. And yes, there’s always time to do laundry later. I’ve got 5 baskets of dirty laundry in testament to this notion.

Good choice! Laundry is always last on my priority list too! When ever I get bombarded with so many things I feel I need to get done and my children are also around, that quote from a commercial (is it rice krispies?) always comes to mind “Childhood is calling” and I usually am not as bothered by what’s left undone. It reminds me that They’re only young once and I only get this special time right now…in these very moments.
