When we bought this house over 3 years ago, I had no clue what I wanted it to end up looking like. I still like to think most of this home as a happy accident. Considering how little we knew, it’s amazing that it’s turned into a home that we find charming and cozy. The inspiration for this work in progress was this couch, a lovely hand-me-down. I’d say I scored.

and this chair to go with it

I chose our living room wall color by matching it to the trim of the couch. I was nervous. I’ve never picked a paint color before that I felt had to be just right. My painter hated it. He said he gagged looking at it the whole time he was painting. He called me a bunch of times to make sure this was the color I wanted. It couldn’t possibly be the color I wanted. But it was. And it is. It’s Afternoon by Sherwin-Williams for anyone wondering. My painter hated it so much that instead of using it in the kitchen too, he mixed a bunch of white in with it and painted my kitchen a yellow that made me gag every time I looked at it. And I live here, he doesn’t. I learned then not to let your painter pick your paint colors.
So I had the wall color picked out and I made the very bold choice of terracotta colored floors.

More orange and teal. This is the cozy chair where my 2 year old son loves to nap. He’s a smart boy.

These colors sing a song of warmth, cheer and comfort to me.

Hey, those are my two fav colors! What a great way to express yourself in your own home…can’t believe that painter didn’t see your vision! Great job!

Beautiful! I especially love how the floor tiles contrast with the teal and melds with the yellow. You have a real talent for interior design!

You really did pick some nice colors. Bold colors say a lot about a room, and your house (what you’ve shown us of it over the course of your blogging) is very lovely.

Your home is lovely–warmt, cheer and comfort is just what we need in a home so I’d say you definitely did well. You know I picked out terra cotta floors like that for my kitchen in my old old house complete with a medallion thingy like you have (and inherited some more terra cotta tile in my old house!)…I loved them. They hid dirt and I loved the color!

thanks y’all. it’s true, the terracotta hides dirt! and these are naturally kind of scuffy tiles so they hide the imperfections from every day wear and tear nicely.

Love it! And that painter really picked the color he wanted to use? Oh, man. He would not have wanted to be on the receiving end of my freak out on that one.

You aren’t kidding about painters picking colors. Some may be great and I’ll bet they’ve repainted a lot of really bad 1st choices. But at least get a 2nd opinion from somebody who is a proved color person.

I think your living room looks unique and warm. If it is beautiful to you, then it IS beautiful!

I love turq and orange too! Such a funny story about your painter! It’s so annoying when someone else can’t visualize the final product!

I love this color combo! We are planning on making our first floor bathroom teal and orange. They work so well together and I love both colors.
Have a good weekend!

Very happy, warm and cozy color scheme. I don’t think I would hire that painter again!
Rather bold of him to change the paint color without your permission.
