These vacation pictures have caught the "feelings when things things are well in our lives" but somehow we miss the moments. I would love to have those feelings kept in a jar. Like when I was small catching "lighting bugs". On the days when I feel cloudy I would open the jar and let the simple times and moments come out.

I think you may have missed spoke when you said your kids are your job. I am sure by the pictures and reading more of your vacation story your kids are just that kids. I loved getting away to the mountain and cottage and lake when my kids were younger. I am running out the door now but something made me want to reply. I will continue when I return. Just your short store of your vac & the pictures made me think of some of the best vacation I ever had with my kids.

Hey Denise - I gave up on auto mode and only shoot in manual now. Sometimes it doesn't come out so well but sometimes I win :) Thanks for the compliment as I am really enjoying learning my "new" camera.

The reminder in this post is making my heart smile. :) Thank you for this wisdom.

We are just getting into the swing of things as summer vacation enters Week Three, and I'm finding that in order to appreciate where I am, I have to make sure that I take some time each day to do some things *without* my kids. They just finished kindergarten, so I can't up and leave - but they are accustomed to some quiet time (independent, non-boisterous playtime) after lunch. I've designated that time as MY quiet time, too, to work on my own projects. We all come back into the afternoon refreshed and ready to have fun together. It takes some discipline (same as being in the moment does), but it's *so* important.

Also: kids who sit in The Big Chair and read together, bike rides, planting and growing, bare feet, good food on the table, holding hands with my husband. :)

Health, family, music, harvest~ all these make my heart sing. Just like the t-shirt...Life is good...of course...dates with Ben with the kids farmed out (if only for a couple hours) make it better. Enjoy your vacation--however it's delivered.

My son graduated from high school on Thursday and while I love the young man he has become nothing will ever beat those moments of cuddling with him before bed reading, or eating ice cream sundaes for breakfast when school was called off due to snow or him presenting me with the surprise gifts he made me in art class. Even now an unexpected hug or compliment makes my day.

Having raised him as a single parent I often longed for more leisure time and less responsibilities...and even now I still sometimes do but the only thing we create when we are in one place or situation and wish we were in another is stress and that isn't what I want to create for myself or my son. I do my best to accept and enjoy where I am right now and when I do I am often rewarded with unexpected joyful moments.

Oh but I so understand being tired or overwhelmed or stressed about money or whatever and how much strength it takes to push those feelings aside and be present and am sending you a big hug and smile for being able to do that both for yourself and your two adorable kids.

Spot on with the post. The moments of feeling overwhelmed can be diffused with bubbles, brownies, reading nooks hand holding and an ice cream. The perfect prescription. What I love right now is the fact that I have 2 magnificent children and an amazing best friend who is also my husband. They love me like no other ever has or will. We are fortunate to build a nest and make everything right on or as close to the mark as possible.
