My Frugal Excuse For A Curtain
May 4, 2009 at 9:23 pm , by Emily
As you can see in this photo, there is a glass door at the end of our kitchen. It leads to the laundry/mud room. I know – who wants to do laundry in a mud room? And it’s actually muddy in there, as it is where my 2 doggies live. It’s dirty. A lot. I have wanted to hang a curtain there for a while, but I wanted it to fit the feel of the room, so I didn’t want to just do something that didn’t make me smile until I found what I envisioned.
Over the weekend, I went yard saling. I found a white, lightweight curtain that had exactly the feel I wanted – casual and breezy. I wasn’t sure what I’d do with it, but I bought it for $1. Only when I got home and went to wash it, did I notice the Pottery Barn tag. I went to hobby lobby with the intention of buying a curtain rod. I decided to go with 99 cent bronze large upholstery nails instead.
For $2 I have myself just the look I wanted. I have done a few window mistreatments before, inspired by The Nester, but I am by far happiest with this one.
What do you think?
Speaking of The Nester, head on over and check out her new e-book It Doesn’t Have To Be Perfect To Be Beautiful. I had the pleasure of reading a copy over the weekend and I loved it. It’s inspiring to anyone who thinks they don’t have enough time, talent or money to make their home beautiful. She’s encouraging and real. Check it out.

YEa for yard sales and your amazing find. It looks great. I SO WISH I had a door separating our mud room. We don’t….just like yours kitchen set up except it leads to our mudroom with no door.UGH and that’s where our dirty dogs are too.

I love that chalk board pic its amazing, its so constructive and doesnt involve a TV!
With the curtain I really like the tassels that are hanging down, they make it look so country and homely. Did you have to do much to get the white to come up on the curtain?

Hey, I notice you we have the same “simplify” sign! I love your window treatment. Simple is always best. I think frou-frou is a thing of the past for the time being. I too loved seeing your children up there writing on that chalkboard. Reminds me of my youngest daughter who we were certain would be a teacher like her grandma and father and uncle. She spent countless hours after school teaching invisible students. Alas, she has a Masters in Finance, and is 30 now. I think we will all think “frugal” for a very long time after what has happened in the world over the past year.

I love the window treatment you chose. I love that it still lets the light into your kitchen space. Natural light is so organic, fresh, and calming. And, I love the chalk board! Where did you get this? I think it would be prime for one of the kids’ rooms. Did you purchase it? Or did you make it yourself?
Thanks for the post, and I came over from Simple Mom.
