We bought a slr camera last year – they are fantastic. The basic process is exactly the same as a normal camera so you can just use the default settings to start.

The biggest benefit is speed – our old digital (6 years old) still worked fine but it would take 3-4 seconds indoors which just doesn’t cut it with little kids since they don’t stay still for very long.

Congrats! Though expensive I believe a purchase like this can bring great returns in the memories and quality of photos you'll have. I bought a D40 last year and love it! I bought one in December after eons of research. Wolf Camera was having a deal with an extra lens and other things and I jumped on it. I am so glad I did! I LOVE my camera. I totally feel your giddyness and joy. I bought an extra book on Nikon digital photography as well as joined some flickr groups and subscribed to some online DSLR tutorials; these are great ways to learn your way around the new toy, after reading the manual it comes with. I haven’t gotten super far with it, but am amazed at the quality of the photos I have taken. I love it so much I’ve even gone so far as to accessorize it with a custom strap and new camera bag! Congrats; there’s no telling how long your euphoria will last!
