A New Light
February 19, 2009 at 6:00 pm , by Emily
I got a new camera. I have never been more giddy about something new as I am about this. From the moment I clicked to buy it over the weekend, I have been anticipating it’s arrival at my doorstep. I don’t make large purchases very often so this felt huge. But exciting. I just got it this afternoon and have only put the lens on and taken photos. I know nothing of settings or how to use it, really. I like it so far.

I was so excited to get it today, I am fairly certain I scared the mailman by opening the door before he knocked. Not that I was waiting at the window all day or anything. I have taken photos of my kids and the house, all of which have shown me our life in a new light today. Everything is brighter, more clear, more vibrant. Even the mound of laundry in my bedroom. I won’t show you that, but I will show you how it even makes Tyvek look fabulous.
I haven’t a clue how to use the camera yet, but I have a feeling I will have fun learning.

How exciting! I just got a DSLR earlier this winter (I traded work for it, it’s used). I love it. I can’t wait till my gardens are in full bloom to show it off. I need to buy a few more lenses though.

We have one coming tomorrow(hopefully). Canon Powershot SX10IS. Our old camera was dropped one too many times. My wife really wanted a Nikon D60, but I talked her into the closest thing, but still a point and shoot. Neither have the passion to figure out DSLR, but we are pretty excited. The HD video will be nice too.

Yay! You’ll love it! I have a D70 and we use it non-stop. I’ve had it for over 2 years and still don’t know much about it. I just set it to ‘P’ and start shooting. We also have a really short lens (that cost under $100) that takes great close up shots. Definitely look into a lens like that.

Terrific! You are going to be a woman on a mission, LOL! Digital photography is such fun, and it’s even MORE fun when you have a great camera. Hubby (retired professional photographer) and I each have Nikon D70 models. I am saving up my pennies to get the new D90 and the 18-200mm vibration reduction lens.
I’m looking forward to seeing your new pictures!

How exciting! Do you know that http://www.thepioneerwoman.com has some great tutorials about photoshop and basic steps on shutter speed and apeture? (SP?) I only have a point & shoot Kodak Z1012. I like it, it’s nice, I don’t do all the fancy editing, though.

I am glad to see others that are sharing my joy over a new toy. I thought and researched long and hard before deciding on this camera and am very happy with my choice so far. And I am really enjoying the results of my unskilled photography so far

I bought one in December after eons of research. Wolf Camera was having a deal with an extra lens and other things and I jumped on it. I am so glad I did! I LOVE my camera. I totally feel your giddyness and joy. I bought an extra book on Nikon digital photography as well as joined some flickr groups and subscribed to some online DSLR tutorials; these are great ways to learn your way around the new toy, after reading the manual it comes with. I haven’t gotten super far with it, but am amazed at the quality of the photos I have taken. I love it so much I’ve even gone so far as to accessorize it with a custom strap and new camera bag! Congrats; there’s no telling how long your euphoria will last!

Congrats! Though expensive I believe a purchase like this can bring great returns in the memories and quality of photos you’ll have. I bought a D40 last year and love it! It’s light years ahead of my point and shoot. Enjoy it! If you can try to get a zoom lens.

We bought a slr camera last year – they are fantastic. The basic process is exactly the same as a normal camera so you can just use the default settings to start.
The biggest benefit is speed – our old digital (6 years old) still worked fine but it would take 3-4 seconds indoors which just doesn’t cut it with little kids since they don’t stay still for very long.
Enjoy the camera!

Welcome to the magical world of digital SLR photography! Don’t be surprised if this acquisition leads to severe lens lust and a sore neck from hours of Photoshopping your images. I started with a Nikon D70, moved on to the D200, and now love using my D300. Have fun!
