A Shopping Trip to Marshalls

A Shopping Trip to Marshalls

Right before Christmas, I was given a $25 gift card to Marshalls to use in their store and then post here about my shopping experience. Anyone who knows me knows that you don’t have to do much to get me into Marshall’s. I have always loved the store because they offer great deals on excellent quality brands. I can’t even choose just one department that I love the most. They have great women’s clothing and shoes, offer fantastic deals on kids shoes, and great household items and far lower than original retail prices.

I shop there when I need something like a new pair of shoes for one of my kids – Stride Rites or New Balance for $7-10 on the clearance rack. Love that. They carry a lot of the Kitchenaid and LeCreuset items that I have in my kitchen and love but don’t want to pay full retail for, so I go there when a need arises in the kitchen.

On this particular shopping excursion, it was right before Christmas so I expected to check out their kids and household sections for a few last minute gifts. I was able to snag a Vera Bradley Duly Noted desk organizer. I picked up some Kitchenaid measuring cups for a few dollars in the kitchen section that my mom had put on her list and a Polish Pottery mug to include in her gift. Then headed over to the kids department where I browsed the books and wood puzzles and got one of each to give to the child my daughter had to get a gift for in our playgroup.

I got gifts for 4 people that day and still have $2 and change left on the gift card. I was very happy with the entire experience and how easy it was to get a few things that people had requested for far less than original retail prices.

I’m absolutely with you on shopping like this. This year for the first time, we set a firm limit on spending for Christmas presents – and went with the “if you can buy it used, rather than new, then do it”. We had the most fun picking presents, finding something that we’d all use, that we’ve ever had. We spent perhaps 1/3 of what we’ve spent in previous years, but gained a whole lot more. From charity shop books to seeds and grow pots. Add to that the fact that our tree this year came from the local school, who left it in their yard “free to a good home” – and our freezer is stocked with christmas leftovers bought “2for1″, its been our most rewarding Christmas for a long time. Happy New Year

Oh, now fun that is! I’ve read some other bloggers who got those cards too. They should give me one, cause I’m a BIG TJ Maxx & Marshalls shopper. Just had a huge spree on workout clothes after Christmas. They have the BEST bargains on namebrand things.

I always head there to look for Ginger People Crystalized Ginger. Mr Chiots and I LOVE LOVE LOVE this stuff and put it in everything from our morning oatmeal to our muffins and cookies. It’s $3 cheaper per can at Marshall’s or TJMaxx than it is at the specialty grocery store.
