The next few days is going to be full of friends, family, good food, relaxation and most of all, reflection on all the things that we have to be thankful for in our lives.
Between decorations and food preparation, the reason for the celebration can get lost.
I am going to be making a conscious effort to not just think about the things I am thankful for, but to show it. I have a few things I’d like to do before this week is over in order to truly give thanks for the wonderful things around me.
- My family has taken the time to gather and list the things we are thankful for on our big chalkboard in the kitchen. It is the heart of our home and therefore we’ve seen each time we enter the room over the past week the things that we are thankful for.
- Write letters – there are people in my life that I don’t tell often enough how much they mean to me. I will write them notes this week (real handwritten ones!) and send them in the real mail. No electronics for this task. Real, heartfelt connection.
- Take time to relax and reflect – instead of getting so caught up in chaos, I hope to really connect with my family when we have this few days together and relax, enjoy and plug in to each other. There is nothing I feel more grateful for than my family and I want them to know that through my actions of giving them all of myself.
- Try to remember not to just do these things at Thanksgiving time – I am starting a gratitude journal (got this idea from a sweet sweet friend) and am going to really try to keep up writing in it throughout the year.
What things are you doing to show thanks for all the fabulousness in your life?

what nice practices these are! i especially like the idea of putting the things you are thankful for on a chalkboard in the kitchen. we don’t have a chalkboard but i think we will complete the exercise on some notebook paper tonight, and just hang it up somewhere. i have a gratitude journal too, it is such a lovely book to keep. p.s. i have just completed my first home butchery project (turkey-wrestling) and am feeling very thanksgiving-y. I’ve never hosted before.

My daughter and I keep a gratitude journal. It’s part of the bedtime routine. We each think of 3 things to be thankful for. She’s so cute. I love it when, during the day, something happens and she says “oh, I’m going to put that in my thankful journal”. AWWWWWW.
