Thirty
October 30, 2008 at 6:00 am , by Emily
Today, I am 30.
30 on the 30th.
Seems appropriate to make a list of 30 things that I am grateful for on my 30th birthday on the 30th.
I am thankful for being able to drink my coffee while it’s still hot. My health. Spell check. I am thankful for our tankless hot water heater that lets me take the longest hottest shower I want on a cold morning. I am thankful for crisp autumn air and turtlenecks. I am thankful that I don’t know everything people say about me behind my back. I am thankful for unconditional love from friends and family. I am thankful for hope, maybe, someday, dreams, and tomorrow. I am thankful for mint chocolate chip ice cream. I am thankful for a sink full of dishes at the end of the day because it means we eat well. I am thankful for my dishwasher. I am thankful for little curious sticky fingers. I am thankful for vinegar because it cleans up all the messes from those little fingers. I am thankful for spontaneous phone calls to say “Hi, I was thinking of you”. I am thankful for handmade cards and homemade dinners by someone other than me. I am thankful for cell phones, email and the internet that keep me connected to those I love. I am thankful for knowing when to turn them all off and step back into my real life. I am thankful for toast with peanut butter. I am thankful for the honor of being “mama”. I am thankful for the beach. I am thankful for flip flops. I am thankful for 30 years of experiences that have made me who I am today.

Happy birthday! 30 is a great age to be. Wishing you all the best in the year to come!
P.S. I’m amazed by how many things on your thankful-for list would be on mine, too.

Happy 30th on the 30th! Love the list – I’m totally with you on the priviledge of being a mother, which is so cool, and definately with you on the coffee.
They seem to go hand in hand with kids. Have a great day!

If only we all could do this… and not just on our birthdays, but everyday! I hope you have a wonderful birthday. Do something for you today
I am glad that you have stopped to appreciate the things and people around you, while I am sure all they are doing today is appreciating you.

Happy Birthday Dear One ! Your thirties are lovely years – no longer a 20 something – womanhood only works better from 30 onwards – finding your ‘authentic self’ seems to happen in the 30s I think.
And thanks to you I have a new additional bit of me – http://www.coldpeascoldpeas.blogspot.com – inspired to some real extent by you and your world here

I really liked this post. I am turning 30 in five months and have been feeling sad about it for the past seven. I never thought I would be that way, but I still feel like I haven’t figured everything out yet that I thought I would by 30. Your post was a reminder that even though I still have a long way to go, I have a lot to be grateful for and a lot of wonderful blessings and experiences in my life. So, I’m going to start my own list like yours for my birthday next year. I hope you had a great day.
