Today, October 15th, is Blog Action Day. Bloggers from around the world are using today to post about one topic, Poverty. I decided that instead of talking today, I am just going to share images of poverty. I hope that these images wiill make you think, feel and act in whatever way feels right to you. Not just today, but every day.

Hi Emily: These photographs certainly tell the story of poverty. Can you believe that a billion people live on less than $1.00 a day?

Great job. It’s refreshing to see a post with only pictures (I’ve heard they’re worth like a thousand words).

Thank you, Emily. After learning of this event just this morning, from your post and Lance’s at The Jungle of Life (I wish I knew how to create a link to it), I knew I needed to tell a story. Your photos, especially the last one, perfectly illustrate my post, today. I’m SO grateful to have found the perfect time to do tell it. Thank you, again.

Poverty is horrible and unfortunately I don’t see one person, one organization or one act of kindness getting rid of it…not on a global scale.

Your photos are breathtaking, but in a way that tears my heart right out of my chest. The one about the working poor hit a really soft spot for me. I hope this blog action day helps people understand that hard work alone cannot prevent poverty.

What a terribly sad yet poignant blog post. Poverty is truly a terrible thing and the saddest part is that it does not have to be this way. We have so much but refuse to switch to a system of distribution that would be more equitable for all.

Emily — the images are heartbreaking. All of us who are fortunate to have a warm home and adequate food and clothing for ourselves and our families should be thankful every day for our blessings. Too often we get hung up on what we don’t have, instead of being grateful for the things we do have. We should be reminded every day that so many others in this world have so little. Thanks.
Best. Joanie
