Our Last Big House Project
We’ve put it off long enough. It’s been 2 long years of remodeling our home, which involved the entire rebuild of our living room, kitchen, a bathroom and 3 bedrooms. Instead of taking on this project, we’ve done things like our new patio and then some “small” things over the summer. Now, the final project is underway. When we bought this house, the previous owners had started converting the garage into a master bedroom and bathroom. They got as far as a plywood floor, a little faux wood paneling on the walls and an avocado green/yellow-ish tub shower and a hole for the toilet. Then stopped. Nice!
We’ve shut the door on that room for a long time, using it for storage and tools. But it’s time to clear it out and turn it into our master bedroom and bathroom and we’re moving our laundry room over there too.
Hubby ripped out the walls and started pulling up the plywood floor last weekend. And he got electric in! Progress already! I thought I’d share what we’re working with here. It’s not pretty. Ugh.

This is where the laundry room is going. Our current laundry room will become just a mud room for the dogs.

That far corner is going to be the 2nd bathroom.

This lovely room here is going to be my master bedroom. Hubby is getting a shed for his birthday in 2 weeks so his tools have somewhere to live outside of the house! I would not even share the embarrassment that is this mess but look how happy my daughter is. It takes a special kind of girl to stand in that room with a broad smile across her face. Love her.
Hubby had to use his saws-all to get the bathtub/shower out of the house. Here he is destroying it even more in the yard while my son looks on.
We really know how to live it up, huh? Doesn’t this look fun? Don’t you want to come join in the fun? I will share photos as the project progresses. Let’s hope this goes quickly!!

How exciting! But is it REALLY your last big house project? ;o) And I’m not sure what you thought was wrong with that avacado bathtub/shower! ha ha Have fun with your reno and make sure to give us updates as you go! I love that stuff.
Maries last blog post..it’s friday and i have nothing to show for it
@Marie It sure won’t be our last project, but it will be the last BIG one
I really wanted to keep the tub/shower but hubs said no ha ha.
Yay! I am so excited for you! I hope it goes quickly and you are basking in the glory of your new rooms very soon!
Well, I’ve been waiting for the reno of our one and only bathroom since we moved in with Eldest Daughter and Son-in-Law in February. It started, then came to an abrupt halt when we disagreed over the need to replace the tub (white, but very old with at least 5 chips out of it). I agreed to unscrew the concrete board s-in-l and his dad had just installed around the old tub and to buy a new tub but it’s a little much to actually expect me to wreck out the old one and install the new one myself. I think that’s been settled by now though.
Then the reno was supposed to happen over the Labour Day weekend, but didn’t and we’re still waiting. Would your hubby like to come over when he’s finished with yours?
wow! that looks like quite the project! i’m impressed that you have the skills to do this. Once i said to my husband, “wouldn’t it be fun to buy a fixer-upper?” he knows the extent of my skills as manual labor and he said, “are you saying it would be fun to drink lemonade while you told me to do things?” LOL!

Now *that* is a project!
I’m fortunate to not have the major huge completely gut the entire space type projects in this house. (Well, unless you count all three bathrooms and the kitchen….). Can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Have you heard the one about the cobbler’s children? That’s us . . . my architect husband and a zillion unfinished projects. We did a large remodel more than 10 years ago and there are still many things that need finishing around here.
I hope your project goes more quickly!
