Frugal Decorating: Use Elements From Nature
One of the warmest, coziest and easiest ways to frugally decorate your home is to bring the outdoors in. By bringing elements of nature into your indoor space, you can add character and warmth to a room without having to set foot in a store. Elements from nature are simple additions to a space.
Here are some idea for frugally decorating by using elements from nature and making your space cozy and warm and simple.
Pinecones
Pinecones will give a space a rustic feel. They’re perfect for autumn, easy to find and easy to decorate with.
Collect some from the backyard and place them in a clear glass bowl. Hey, I never said I’m fancy. I’m lazy and simple!
Seashells
Seashells are a perfect way to bring nature inside. They’re also often tokens picked up from visits to the beach with family. I love having seashells around because they remind me of days walking on the beach with my kids, sand between our toes, searching for them.
I love collecting lots of little seashells to fill jars with and I also love love love big seashells that can stand alone.
Some other ideas for decorating with nature that I use around my home are
- Fruit - bowls full of apples, pears, lemons, and limes are colorful and fun to place on tables or the counter
- Flowers - I love fresh flowers, especially those from my own yard. They’re a great way to add cheer to any room.
- Pumpkins - of course, this is an idea that only really lasts for the month of October. If I decorate with pumpkins this year, I will have to buy them because the ones growing in my yard are nowhere near ready. Next year!
Do you like to decorate with elements from nature? What are your favorites? I would love to hear other ideas!

we have a dearth of seashells around here
But I love stand-alone ones too. I think another great way to decorate is to put dried reeds and dried flowers in interesting glass vases. you often get vases for free from those flower delivery services, and you can find the reeds on your walks (or pussywillows, have you ever seen that? they are so haunting) . There is also a nice selection of inexpensive large vases at IKEA. Dried reeds & flowers are very nice for the fall and cheaper than fresh flowers, which I love but which can get expensive in the wintertime.

I definitely find having pot plants in the house a great, cheap way to decorate. I’m also addicted to having fresh flowers in my living room, for £5 a bunch that lasts a week they add so much colour and interest that I think the price is well worth it
