My daughter requested a lamp for her bedroom a few weeks ago. Her old one had been played with one too many times and fell and cracked. If you know me by now, I wanted to oblige her request and would prefer to do it without spending any money.
We had a lamp that wasn’t being used but it was plain and boring so instead of just sticking it in her room all blah like, I decided to see if I could spruce it up a bit. I did a little google searching for how to recover a lampshade and found this tutorial and got to work. All I needed was my handy dandy hot glue gun, scissors, fabric (I found a scrap big enough in my stash), and I used wrapping paper to make my pattern on. Oh and coffee. All projects around here are fueled by coffee.
As I said before, all I did was follow that very simple tutorial above. It only took about 20 minutes start to finish. I think I should’ve gone and bought a spray adhesive for it to look more finished and polished but I made do with my glue gun. I also could’ve gone and bought fabric that would go better in her room but this is cute and I think it looks just fine.
I was going to trim it at the top and bottom with ribbon and maybe some fringe but the moment my daughter saw it with the fabric she wanted it in her room NOW! I’ll have to do that some other time when she’s not looking. For now, she has a cute whimsical little lamp for her bedside and I didn’t have to spend a dime!

this is so cute!! Can you post where you got the tutorial? Is that just one piece of fabric? I love it.
Just found your blog today. Its bookmarked to spend some time looking through it all it looks great.

The tutorial is linked above. I’ll see if I can’t change the link color so it shows up better. Thanks for stopping by! I appreciate your feedback and hope to see you around again!

That turned out so cute! Totally transformed the lamp! We did something like that for my daughter and I was so pleased with how it turned out. So much more personal than a plain white shade.
Happy day!

Very cute lampshade! I did a tutorial on my blog too about covering lampshades. It’s a very fun way to update those old ones. I do it all the time. Amazing what a little fabric will do.
