Simple Storage Solutions: In The Bedroom

This is one in a series on Simple Storage Solutions for your home. Please check back later this week for other installments or subscribe to my feed so you don’t miss it! The other parts of this series are In The Kitchen and In The Living Room.

Today’s feature is the bedroom, one of the most important yet neglected rooms of the home. At least in my house.

Here are some simple storage solutions for bedrooms:

Go Up

Yes, this is my favorite tip for storage around the home, if you can’t tell. I like to make use of floor to ceiling space instead of spreading too much furniture around the walls. A relatively quick and easy solution to not enough storage in our bedroom and feeling like a dresser just wasn’t enough is this:

Hubby took a blank wall that used to house a 6 drawer dresser (not at all good for using vertical space or dealing with things that need to be hung) and built storage:

It’s not all that pretty, but it sure is practical. I plan to hang curtains over it…someday…but for now I like that having it open like that makes the room feel bigger and forces me to keep my stuff organized :)

Other ideas for the bedroom are:

  • Beds with drawers like this Ikea daybed
  • maximize wall space by using pegs for hanging items in kid rooms
  • store off season items or seldom worn clothing in luggage instead of storing luggage empty
  • use closet organizers for shoes, sweaters and other items
  • Photobucket

The organizers in this photo are all from Ikea and only a few dollars each. Simple. Frugal. Fabulous.

Check back tomorrow. I am daring to offer a glimpse into the chaos that is our playroom/office and how we handle storage in there!

love IKEA – we have both of those items! My girls use the wide organizer for picking out their clothes for the week.

Good ideas. I recently purchased an over the door shoe hanger for my girls’ room. It stores shoes, obviously, but also their hair bows. Now I want one for each closet.

I have to agree completely. One of the easiest storage solutions I implemented recently was a $10.00 shoe rack that cleared over half of my closet floor. I bought it at Target.
