Emily: Enjoy all of it, especially the brief time away from your kids. For the first half-day you’ll suffer from phantom limb syndrome, i.e. it will feel like part of you is missing. But it really IS good to be away from them for a short time; you’ll go back refreshed and recharged and soooo happy to see them again. You’ll know that they’ll be cared for well while you’re gone, so really, really enjoy yourself.
Next month I’m taking a short vacation myself, to visit friends and family in Alaska; I lived there for 17 years and really miss it. Of course, it will also be a frugal vacation: Frequent-flier ticket, staying with a friend and gratefully accepting the loan of a car from another friend. I’m looking forward to pushing my great-nephews on the swing and hanging out with old friends to chat and watch the sun NOT go down — it’s Alaska in the summer!

The house looks beautiful. I think it’s great that you’re creating such wonderful tradiitions for your children: spending the summers in upper New York with their grandparents. If you add a couple of dishes that you only eat while you’re there, and maybe have two or three CDs that you only listen to while you’re vacationing in that house, you have a ready-made tradition

How cool is that!!!! We’re going on vaca in July (12 hours one way to Colorado through Nebbbbbrrrrrrraskkkkkkaaaaaaaaaaa – Nebraska feels like an eternity, nothing to look at, we go at night ).

What a beautiful vaca house your parent’s have.

Oooh and staying at a posh hotel by yourself?! Can’t wait to hear more!!

I am SO JEALOUS! That looks awesome and the posh posh hotel…geez! I hope you have a wonderful trip. I can’t imagine being away from home for 6 weeks! wow! Hope you aren’t taking such a long blogging break too??
