Finally Some Answers

I have not been feeling well the past few days. It’s been quite miserable really. After my experience on Monday at the doctor (if you even want to call him that), I started to improve. I actually felt good on Tuesday and Wendesday. Went to bed Wednesday night with high hopes of waking up totally better on Thursday. Instead, I woke up to my throat being on fire and an earache. I rode out the day but when it wasn’t gone this morning, I called up to get in to see my new doctor.

Actually, my new doctor wasn’t in today, but I saw his physician’s assistant. Who did a much more magnificent job than the wacko from Monday. She examined me thoroughly and when she realized it was pretty serious, brought another doctor in to examine me. They both decided I have mono and sent me for bloodwork to be done with the results back ASAP and I was scheduled for a follow up appointment tomorrow morning.

I came home and took a long nap and woke up to my phone ringing at 3 o’clock. My monospot came back negative. They wanted me in to the ear, nose and throat specialist right away. So hubby drove me over there and I was examined by a specialist who declared I have a peritonsillar abcess that needs to be drained. It was unpleasant. The numbing spray tasted like bad bananas and anyone who knows me knows bananas make me sick. Couldn’t make it taste like chocolate, could they? So I get a needle poked in the back of my throat and the abcess is drained. I get a plethora of prescriptions prescribed for the infection, pain, and swelling. Then I am informed that I can either opt to be admitted to the hospital for the night for observation or I can go home, but only if I promise to call the doctor’s cell phone to be admitted immediately if I get worse.

Apparently what the moron doctor on Monday missed was life threatening and if I had waited out the weekend to be seen, it could have been bad. It could still be bad, I have to wait and see what tomorrow morning brings. I do feel a bit better tonight but that might just be all those loopy meds talking.

I can’t swallow anything but water and really really mushy food. So, over the past week, I’ve lost 4 pounds, and in the past 24 hours I’ve eaten a yogurt and 3 bites of applesauce. And a little ice cream, but that hurt. Figures. I’ve spent $185 more on medical appointments and prescriptions. But I have what I hope is a final answer and a final solution.

After a weekend of rest, I hope to be back to myself again. Hubby and the kids have been awesome. Baby Eli is all about giving kisses and I have been brought more fistfuls of flowers than I can count and I am ever so grateful to my loving family and friends and all of you who have carried me through this rough month.
