I’ve done a bunch of whining here lately about medical bills. It has seemed recently like we just haven’t been able to catch a break on things that are making us bleed money. It’s been stressful, but it’s life, we roll with the punches, not the end of the world. Money is really for spending anyway, right? I mean, at some point, it all goes somewhere!
Not too long ago, my camera went missing. Not too out of the ordinary, it’s small and I often take a little while looking around before I find it in the bottom of a bag or somewhere else it doesn’t belong. The last time I remembered seeing it was when my dad had come over to visit and we were chatting and Baby Eli wandered off with it. So I checked all his little hiding spots, the laundry hamper, all the dresser drawers as he loves to put things in drawers and baskets. I looked for a day and finally called my dad and asked if he remembered seeing where Eli took off with it.
My dad said “well, remember, he was playing with the garbage pullout and you told him to stop”. Our kitchen garbage is one of those cabinets that has a handle and you pull it open and there is a bin for garbage and a bin for recycling.
I didn’t truly think Eli had thrown it away so I half-heartedly looked through the garbage but then just continued to keep my eye out around the house for it. Hubby said if we didn’t find it by Friday, he would go through the trash that had already gone outside to our toters. Thursday rolled around and it had been 3 days since I’d seen my camera. I was getting concerned. Finally I just decided to go out there myself and look through the garbage bags.
Sure enough, there was my camera at the bottom of Monday’s garbage bag and covered in coffee grounds and some icky goop. Blech. I cleaned it up as best I could and was just glad to have found it. A couple hours later, I went to take some photos and much to my chagrin, the camera appeared to be ruined. It turned on fine, but it wasn’t accepting SD cards and the photos all were coming out really dark and brown and grainy. I was so mad at myself.
I called Kodak and I called a local camera shop. They both listened to what happened and deemed my camera dead. Kodak said I could send it back and pay $80 for a replacement refurbished one or I could give it back to them and they’d send me a coupon for 15% off a new camera from their online store. I was so upset with myself and didn’t want to think about the fact that I had let my brand new camera get ruined and I didn’t want to decide right then what to do. So I set it aside and started using our backup digital camera until I could really think about what I wanted to do as a replacement.
Fast forward to yesterday. Hubby tells me that he just randomly decided to turn my camera on and look at it and it’s working just fine! I couldn’t believe it! But it’s true! It works just like it used to! I was so happy. Finally something went right so I didn’t have to spend more money unnecessarily. I was starting to think I had bad money karma or something the way it was all just bleeding out of me so fast lately for all things that I couldn’t do anything about.
And…just as a little aside. When you think you’re being a smart mommy teaching your 1 year old to throw away his diapers…remember you are also teaching him to throw away everything. We now have a baby lock on the trash

He doesn’t look mischievous, does he? This is the first photo I took today with my newly working camera.

He looks very mischievous! I’m glad your camera is working ok

He doesn’t look mischievous at all. He is beautiful and just looks inquisitive. After all, he’s a baby.
You are so right about teaching him to throw out the diapers. Most of the things our children do they learn from us or what we taught them. You have to think “who’s really doing the teaching here?”
Happy to hear your camera is fine. And stop thinking you have bad money karma or else you are going to bring it on yourself. Think happy and good thoughts!!

Oh yee! It’s that excited look of “Did I do good?” crossed with “I love mommy!!”
My little “nephew” was either expanding on his potty training or imitating mommy or maybe he just wanted to see how the tissues worked. He’s a litle bit older, but looks a lot like Eli: http://tinyurl.com/3hxf58

Mrs. M – he is so cute! That’s happened here a few times

He sure seems to be enjoying all the attention he is getting.
Anyway, I am sure he thinks he did the right thing. And since everything worked out alright, a hearty smile should be in order.

We had camera success story like that once. Our camera was lost at my parents’ house and then ended up in their front yard in the wet grass, but still worked!

My son has thrown away tons of things. The stuff I never recovered from the trash are: the remote, one of my shoes, one of his favorite teddy bears, several trains from his train set, and a toy airplane. We used to make a habit of checking the trash on a regular basis.
