Snowflake Your Way to a Better Self
It’s nearly impossible to make it through my blog reader without seeing mention of snowflaking. So call me a follower, a bangwagon jumper, whatever, but here I am and I want to be a snowflaker too! I don’t have debt to snowflake away to nothing though. And sure it’s fun to snowflake money to savings. But I got thinking about my life and little changes I’m making each and everyday and I realized that snowflaking really does apply to a lot of things in life, not just finances.
I can snowflake away my clutter, I can snowflake my diet, snowflake exercise, even snowflake my household cleaning duties. Really, what it comes down to is embracing the ease and simplicity and power of doing little things to make big differences. So your house is full of clutter and it’s time to cut it out of your life? Start small. One thing per day. You’ll find yourself in a zen place in no time where all that surrounds you are things that you either deem beautiful or useful. Every room in the house needs to be cleaned? Start small and make your way around, little by little you’ll be surrounded by sparkling floors and counters. Need to shed some weight? Don’t starve yourself, don’t go crazy. Just start small, make little changes in your diet, eat less and move more and be patient. You’ll see results. I want to run a marathon in 6 months. I know I can’t go out and run 26.2 miles tomorrow. I am going to have to work my way up to it, start small and let the small challenges and changes I make each day take me to my goal. Even when I think of things like the environment, there are so many little things, tiny little snowflakes that I and you can do every single day to make a difference. Start small, realize that each and every small action you take in whatever you do and toward whatever goals you want to reach, is getting you a step closer.

I need to start snowflaking my cleaning. That’d make days like today a lot easier. I mean, it only takes an hour to do a mass clutter reduction, but it’s a 1-bedroom apartment so…it’d be a lot better if the clutter wasn’t there to begin with.
It’s similar to the Zen Habits idea. Just one habit at a time, just one thing at a time. Otherwise you go nuts. Or if you’re like me, you just go more nuts. :-p
This is awesome. Snowflake everything!
We have a proverb in our country.
“Sedikit sedikit, lama lama jadi bukit”.
It means, “Little by Little, a mountain it becomes.”
Just like you have said, little by little, we can complete most tasks.
I love this idea! We are snowflaking our debt, but I do apply this principle to other areas of my life as well - I just never referred to it as snowflaking.
How cute.
I like how you apply the concept of snowflaking to other areas of your life. I’ve always used the term “baby steps,” but snowflaking works just as well!
I’m on board with the snowflaking clutter! Maybe I’ll be able to get the rest of the family to go along too.
I really like this! I’ve been doing just about exactly what you describe — snowflaking clutter, household cleaning, exercise, etc.
Thanks for articulating this so nicely.
