We just moved into our not quite finished home after Hurricane Katrina took our old home. We have no flooring, no trim around the windows or doors and no kitchen cabinets. Yet we are so thankful to be living in a house again after spending two years in an rv with three teenagers, three dogs and two cats. We have done most of the work ourselves with the help of volunteers. It is so true that you can put blinders on and just live with it, while other folks might think your nuts. What a wonderful post. At this point in our lives, our house and property are too big for us. Yes, we can afford it, but it takes a lot of work (and $$$) to maintain it. It's very tiring when you get older! We have had our house up for sale for the past year and plan to downsize to a manageable-size villa home. We're looking forward to having more simplicity in our lives. *Simple* is a virtue. Sometimes I look around and see others doing what they want without regard for the cost and wonder why my life isn't like that. Thank you for encouraging me to keep chugging along in my simplicity. Thank you for encouraging me to be thankful. And yes, the dark side is brighter than people realize!
